David’s Observation
David’s Observation
I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. —Psalm 37:25
This was David’s experience, but not everyone’s. This is not an unconditional promise for all believers. There have been good Christians who have fallen on dire straits who need help with groceries. David himself had to ask Nabal to give him bread for his men (1 Sam. 25). Jesus referred to the beggar Lazarus desiring the crumbs from the rich man’s table. We know this beggar was righteous since he was carried by the angels to paradise when he died (Luke 16:19-22).
David’s statement in Psalm 37:25 is more of a general rule that must be considered in the context of his whole life, over the long haul, from being young to now being old.
Speaking for myself, I can say God has never forsaken me and always provided for my needs (Phil. 4:19). I’ve never had to beg for bread although there were times when my family we down to a box of Saltine crackers and a jar of peanut butter. God always taken care of me.
I cannot promise you that you will always have everything you want. But I can say from experience that God will take care of all your needs when you live for Him.
