A Significant Find
A Significant Find
I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. —2 Chronicles 34:15
Last week I read about Timothy Yost, a homeless man, who found a bag containing $77,000 in a city park in Bastrop, Texas. Although police initially took Yost’s find away from him, their attempts to locate the money’s rightful owner proved fruitless. Under Texas state law, the finder gets to keep recovered goods if the original owner can’t be found. So, Yost got to keep the $77,000 he found.
As significant as Yost’s find was, it was nothing compared to what Hilkiah, the high priest, found in the temple of the Lord as he was clearing out the rubbish that accumulated over years of neglect. Lo and behold, he found a copy of the written Word of God that was lost for about 100 years! What a priceless find!
There is nothing more valuable on earth today than the Book of God. It is the only Book that came down from heaven to us. And it is the only Book that can bring heaven into a home or a person’s life!
Yet, as valuable as this Book is, I believe it has been lost in many Christian homes today. There hasn’t been much attention paid to that Book for a long time. It’s been lost through years of neglect. It’s been so long since it’s been read OUT LOUD around family table it is not even missed.
No wonder we are in such a cultural mess today. What else can you expect when God’s Word is never consulted?
Many homes need to clear out the trash and find that Book again!
