WORDS OF WISDOM
Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. —Proverbs 4:7
There is nothing you need more in life than wisdom. It is the principle thing. Wisdom will help to protect you for wrong people… bad relationships… sinful experiences… hurtful situations.
Your wisdom will play a role in your favor with other people… your health… your financial success. If I look at your finances, I can see how much financial wisdom you have. If I look at an empty piggy bank, I know how much wisdom you need.
Wisdom will help you to know what to say and how to say it. Your choice of words is important. Words are like doors—They will open or close opportunities. For example, one preacher said, “Everybody needs healing somewhere.” What if he said it this way, “Everyone is a sicko.” One way of saying it opens a door. The other way closes the door. Words determine what grows and what dies.
Your words are the “seeds” for feelings—For yourself and for others. You decide how you feel by the words you chose to say. Which of the following statements do you think would elicit the best response: Suppose a wife says to her husband, “Would you want to help me move the dining room table here?” Or, if she says, “Come help me move the dining table.”
Ask God to help you to be wise in how you speak. Your words will stagnate or motivate: “The words of the wise are as goads…” (Eccl. 12:11).
