TODAY … THAT DAY
“To day if ye will hear his voice” —Hebrews 4:7
“I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” — 2 Timothy 1:12
God’s calendar has only two days— “today” and “that day.” “Today” is the day of salvation (2 Cor. 6:2). “That day” is the prophetic day of the Lord (1 Thess. 5:2). The person who is ready for “that day” is ready for any day.
Believers need to keep their eyes on both days. Some of Christians are near-sighted. Some are far-sighted. Paul may have had trouble with his physical eyes, but he had no spiritual astigmatism. He lived with one eye on “today” and the other eye focused on “that day” — “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13).
Until “that day” arrives remember, “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalms 118:24).
“Today” could also be “that day!”
