THE TEST OF LORDSHIP

THE TEST OF LORDSHIP

“Why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” — Luke 6:46

Jesus spoke a parable about a father who told his two sons to go work in his vineyard. One said “I will not,” but later he went. The other said, “I go, sir,” but never showed up at the vineyard. (see Matthew 21:28-32).

I see these two kinds of Christians at church all the time. Some make commitments to honor God in stewardship by tithing, but when the offering plate comes around they withhold God’s tithe. Yet, others who refuse to give at first, but later become faithful stewards. There are those who make glowing commitments to serve on an outreach team, but don’t show up when it’s their time to go into the vineyard. And other’s who stubbornly resist getting involved, but later surprise everyone and become faithful servants of Christ.

Jesus said the test of Lordship is not merely saying “Lord, Lord,” with your lips, but it is DOING the will of God with your life (Mt. 7:21).
