I Am Jacob
What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. —Genesis 32:27
Jacob means “supplanter.” He certainly lived up to his name. No wonder God called Jacob a worm in Isaiah 41:14. You cannot get much lower than a worm that feasts on dead matter! Yuck!
But to be honest, isn’t there some “Jacob” in all of us? As much as it pains me to admit it, there have been times when I’ve also planned, connived, schemed, and even cheated to get my own way. Ouch! It hurt confess that!
The good news is that in spite of the “Jacob” nature that is in me, God still loves me with Jacob (Rom. 9:13). He is the“…mighty God of Jacob”(Gen. 49:12). Praise the Lord—The same God Who turned Jacob into a prince of God, still changes “Jacobs” into princes today.
Amen!
