In Lenoir, NC

NOTE: Sorry for not posting recently. I’ve been dealing with a nasty bout of bronchitis. Doing better now.

We are currently camped in the front yard of Scott and Pam Barlow in Lenoir, NC. Scott and Pam were faithful members of Bible Baptist for several years when Scott was stationed on the USS Nimitz in the late 1980’s.  After being discharged from the Navy they returned to their hometown of Lenoir, NC. Barb and I have maintained a close friendship with them through the years. Scott and Pam’s daughter, Makayla, is currently serving the Lord on a world-wide mission trip. You can follow Makayla at www.makaylabarlow.theworldrace.org   They continue to faithfully serve God at Refuge Baptist Church in Hudson, NC.  In fact, the Barlow’s were instrumental in getting this great church started with Pastor Jerry Woodie (now retired). Their new pastor is Darren Peterson (a real “fire-ball”).

Refuge Baptist is currently in the middle of a revival meeting with Evangelist Larry Winkler. He’s been preaching since he was 12 years old.  There is nothing quite like the red-hot preaching you hear in the “Bible Belt.”  This week Brother Winkler preached the best sermon on the “Great White Throne Judgment” I’ve ever heard (and I’ve heard a lot of sermons). “Old Time Preaching” at it’s best!  I hope to get a copy of his sermon to post on our web site. Watch for it. [Listen to it here: https://avhughes.com/the-great-white-throne-judgment-rev-2011-15/]

Next we will travel to the Raleigh, NC area to visit family and George and Angela Sharpe, who were also former members of Bible Baptist many years ago.  We are very excited about seeing them again!

Thanks for praying for us!  We love y’all.

  1. What a blessing. Thanks for sharing them with us…especially us old-timers who remember these former members of BBC.
