My Attorney
And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. —1 John 2:1
Satan is the accuser of the brethren (Rev. 12:10; Job 1:9-11). He stands to accuse me before God. He sees me when I mess up and lays his charge against me before God: “God, Did you just see o’ Al Hughes? Did you see what he just did? Did you see his anger flare up? Did you notice those wicked thoughts that just passed through his mind? Did you see him covet that new Mustang?”
Then my Advocate, the Lord Jesus, simply lifts His nail pierced hand and says, “But Father, I paid for those sins when I shed my blood for Al Hughes at Calvary.” Then God declares, “Justified!” And Satan’s allegations fall silent.
Dear friend, if you are saved, you have Someone standing at the throne of God pleading for you, and He’s never lost a case. “Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us” (Rom. 8:31-32). Hallelujah!
