A Word for the Weary

A Word for the Weary

“…how to speak a word in season to him that is weary”  —Isaiah. 50:4

The prophet Isaiah dealt with the nation Israel during a time when they were taken captive by the Babylonians. They were discouraged, distressed, and downtrodden. What could he say to these weary people to help them?  Isaiah writes, “The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary (Isa. 50:4). And what word did Isaiah gave them? He spoke a word of hope. He spoke of the coming Messiah and their need to just trust the Lord (Isa. 50:5-10).

People who are weary need a word of hope. What hope can you give them?  The greatest hope we have is the “blessed hope” of Christ’s soon appearing (Titus 2:13). No wonder Paul concluded his discussion about the rapture of the saints saying, Wherefore comfort one another with these words (1 Thess. 4:13-18).  What greater comfort or hope can you offer a person who is weary than Jesus is coming soon? There isn’t a single problem a Christian may have that Christ’s coming wouldn’t solve!

Do you know someone who is weary or needs a word of encouragement? Why not write them note, email, or call them on the phone to remind them of our blessed hope that Jesus is coming soon! As Jesus said, Look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh(Luke 21:28).

“For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry” (Heb. 10:37).
