A Six Word Biography

Have you ever tried to summarize a person’s life in six words. Once Ernest Hemingway wrote a six word biographical sketch this way: “For sale: Baby shoes, never used.”  How sad.

Here are some six word biographies of some Bible characters:

  • David— “a man after mine own heart” (Acts 13:22).
  • Mary— “Behold the handmaid of the Lord.” (Luke 1:38)
  • Paul— “For me to live is Christ” (Phil. 1:21)
  • John the Baptist— “He must increase—I must decrease” (John 3:30).
  • Moses — “Moses, the servant of the LORD” (Dt. 34:5).
  • Esther — “For such a time as this” (Esther 4:14).
  • Jesus— “God was manifest in the flesh” (1 Tim. 3:16).

I’m sure you can find some other examples in the Bible.  But consider this: What six-word description would best describe you? Would it be positive or negative? Would it be “Not an easy person to love,” or “A faithful servant of the Lord”?

What would your six word biography say?
