Let’s Sing Together

Let’s Sing Together

Let’s Sing Together!

In the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee. —Hebrews 2:12

I have a few electrical devices I use practically everyday—The coffee maker; a computer; a shaver, a television (I know… shame on me), etc.  But, one of my all-time favorite gadgets is my iPod / iPhone.  This little gizmo I can hold in the palm of my hand literally stores thousands of songs I enjoy listening to almost everyday and anywhere I go.

Music has always been an part of God’s creation, from “when the morning stars SANG TOGETHER” in the beginning (Job 38:1-7) to spending eternity singing His praise in heaven (Rev. 5:9).

I remember while growing up in the ’60’s a TV show called, “Sing Along with Mitch.” Mitch Miller would lead an all male chorus singing popular songs while the lyrics would be displayed on the TV screen.  Viewers at home were invited to “sing along.” The thing that made this show popular was the joy in singing together with other people.

Music is a means of administering grace to the hearer.  One of my favorite parts of a church service is the music.  I love the choir anthems.  I’m blessed by the solos, duets, trios, and quartets. I really appreciate our church band!  But, the thing I love most of all is the congregational singing.

Ezra 3:11 says, And they sang TOGETHER.”  I like that! Do you realize that church is about the only place in our society where people get together to sing?  This is because Christians have Someone and something to sing about!  It is our music and singing that sets us apart from the world.

I love the music of praise… and God likes it too! Therefore, when you come to church, join your voice with others in making a joyful noise unto God.  There ain’t nothin’ like it anywhere on earth!  We’re getting in practice at church for what we’ll be doing forever in heaven!

Say with the Psalmist: “I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.” —Psalms 104:33

  1. This was wonderful! Thanks so much for sharing. I sent the link to my pastor and the head of the Staff-Parish committee (aka my bosses!) I had my annual review last night and this was a great follow-up to one of our discussions.

    God bless!

  2. Right on! I’ve always felt a little guilty that when I pray, I get sidetracked, and my mind stays to a song that reminds me of what I’m praying about! But I’ve stopped beating myself up about it…God gave me a love of music, who am I to feel guilty about it? The music is a complement to the church sermon to me. I love sitting down and glancing at the bulletin, thinking of possible songs we might sing that go with the message. My kids and I drive along in our car, just singing along to christian music. I long for the day we get to sing praises to the Lord forever! For now, I’ll take church!
