Doing The Will of God
Doing the Will of God
…that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.—Romans 12:2
Bob Jones Sr. said, “Success is knowing the will of God and doing it.” I can’t think of a better definition of success than that. In the final analysis, there is nothing more important than doing the will of God.
“The will of God” is one of the grand themes of the Bible. David “served his own generation by the will of God” (Acts 13:36). Paul wrote “as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart” (Eph. 6:6). John wrote, “he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever” (1 John 2:17). Jesus said, “Whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother” (Mk. 3:35). Our prayers should be contingent upon “If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that” (James 4:15). As Jesus prayed in the garden, “Not my will, but thine, be done” (Luke 22:42).
Our text for today says the will of God is “good…acceptable…and perfect.” Since it is GOOD, we should not complain about it. Since it is ACCEPTABLE, we should never reject it. Since it is PERFECT, it cannot be improved upon.
God knows what is best for each of us, therefore we should all pray with the Psalmist, “I delight to do thy will, O my God” (Ps. 40:8).
One Reply to “Doing The Will of God”
Preacher,
A number of years ago a man claiming to be preaching the word of God told me this “With our fininte minds it is absolutely impossible for us to know the will of God”. That teaching damaged my walk more than I can fathom. After that I did not seek the will of God. God did indeed during those years sometimes show me his will and because of the teaching of this man I ignored it and suffered the consequences. I know what the bible declares to be the will of God but often wonder if I had actually gotten into the habit of seeking his will by going to him in prayer before making decisions if my life would be different today?
Another example of man placing stumbling blocks before his fellow man. Dewey
