Our Eternal God
Our Eternal God
O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. —John 17:5
Have you ever considered the mind-blowing question, since God is eternal, what was He doing before Genesis 1:1?
Before Genesis 1:1, God was all there was! Psalms 90:2 says, “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.” We could say that before creation, God was simply busy being God. He was actively occupied in His glory within the Godhead.
God’ Word tells us we were in the purpose of God before the foundation of the world (Eph. 1:4; 2 Tim. 1:9). The promise of eternal life was given “before time began” (Titus 1:2). But God, in His perfect wisdom, chose not to reveal many details about His activities in eternity. God knows that since we are finite beings, we would never be able to comprehend it anyway.
When we consider the infinite essence of God’s Person, it should cause us to bow in humble worship of this One who inhabits eternity and transcends time and space.
