MASKS
Masks
“Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD.” —Jeremiah 23:24
Many people, young and old alike, will be putting on a mask tonight, being it’s Halloween. However, some people wear a mask 365 days year to hide who they really are.
Did you hear the story about the masked robber who went into a bank and in the middle of the robbery, his mask fell off. He quickly put it back on. He turned to one of the bystanders and said, “Did you see my face without the mask?” The man said, “Yes, I did.” So the robber shot him. He asked one of the tellers, “Did you see my face?” She said, “Yes, I did.” So, he shot her too. He turned to a lady nearby, “Ma’am, did you see me without my mask?” She answered, “No I didn’t, but my husband did!”
Masks are nothing new. We find various people trying to disguise themselves throughout the Bible. Jeroboam disguised his wife to visit the prophet (1 Kings 14:1-6). It didn’t work. King Ahab tried to disguise himself before going into battle against the Syrians (1 Kings 22:30-38). It didn’t work either.
Steve Brown has a Scriptural principle about masks: “There is a direct, though not absolute, correlation between your proclivity to wear a mask and God’s proclivity to rip it off.”
We all wear various masks to hide what we really are or how we really feel. We have our church mask… work mask… school mask… etc. Wearing these masks is dumb because God sees the truth that lies behind them. God knows the real you and He wants other people to see you for what you really are.
Take off your mask! You are not fooling God, and it’s only a matter of time before God rips your mask off. Be transparent. Be real! If something is wrong in your life, don’t fake that everything is OK. Come clean, and get the help you need.
