A Simple Testimony
A Simple Testimony
One thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see. —John 9:25
When a person is called to take the witness stand in a court trial, their responsibility is to simply tell what they know about case. The same is true for a Christian witnessing for Christ. All they need to tell is what they know and Jesus—Simply tell what Jesus has done for them.
I recently read about a guitar instructor named Dan Smith. For fifteen years his name has appeared on flyers in coffee shops, laundromats, and small businesses all over New York City. Each flyer has this simple six-word slogan: “Dan Smith Will Teach You Guitar.” Dan always has eager students coming to him to learn how to play guitar. Satisfied students then hang his flyers in new places. It’s their way of saying, “Dan Smith taught me guitar. He can teach you too.”
In John 9 Jesus healed a man who was born blind. The religious leaders doubted and believed Jesus was a sinner. So they asked the man Jesus healed how he received his sight since Jesus was a sinner. He gave this simple answer, “Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: One thing I know, that, whereas I WAS BLIND, NOW I SEE.” Amen! That settles it.
Don’t be distressed if some cultist comes to your door with questions you cannot answer. Don’t get sidetracked “doting about questions and strifes of words” (1 Tim. 6:3-5). Just give them a simple testimony of what Jesus did for you when He saved you.
What is your six word testimony? How about this: “I was lost, now I’m found.” Or, “He who has Jesus, has life.” Or, something like the students of Dan Smith: “Jesus Christ saved my soul. He can save you too!” You don’t need to explain it—Just tell it, and let your changed life prove the rest!
