Tending Your Fire
Tending Your Fire
“Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out.” —Proverbs 26:20
If you are anything like me, you’ve notice times when your spiritual fire begins to flicker and dim. I’ve come to realize that when my fire for the Lord begins to die out, it was not due to my lack of effort, but from exerting too much effort in tending to everyone else’s fire while neglecting my own.
Don’t get me wrong… I believe we should do what we can to help others with their walk with the Lord. But before you seek to help another, make sure you have put another spiritual log on your own fire for Christ. If you neglect your own fire, eventually you will not be able to ignite anyone else’s fire. You cannot give out to another what you lack yourself.
Don’t let your fire go out! Paul said, “Stir up the gift of God, which is in thee” (2 Timothy 1:6). Stir up those smoldering embers and add some spiritual fuel to the flames. Keep the fire burning for the Lord!
