God’s Amazing Love

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son… —John 3:16

When we read, “God so loved the world,” we must remember “God so loved” His Son also!  God loved Jesus even more than He loved the world. Jesus is God’s “only begotten Son.”  At Jesus baptism, God said “this is my beloved Son.” Paul called Jesus God’s “dear Son”  (Col. 1:13).

It hurts a parent to see their child suffer.  When we hear them cry, we run to their aid.  Would you stand at your window and watch your son being abused at the hands of an angry mob while they smite him, spit upon him, and torment him? No!  You would rush to his rescue.

Yet, the Father in Heaven watched a vicious crowd take His beloved Son and brutally smite Him… spit upon Him… scourge Him… and crucify Him!  With one blast of His lips God could have vaporized that bloodthirsty crowd—With a swipe of His hand God could have swept that murderous crowd into hell.  But, wonder of wonders!  When God saw all this, He held the breath of His lips and He stayed His hand.

Why? Because He loved YOU! Absolutely incredible!
