Mothballed Christians
Mothball Saints
And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?—Matthew 20:6
My oldest Grandson, Roy Gregson, sent me this interesting insight:
Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, like several other bases and ports around the nation, hosts a portion of what is know as the “Mothball Fleet.” The Mothball Fleet is a collection of navel vessels which were commissioned into active service but are not currently in active service. They are held in storage on the chance that they might be needed during emergency or war.
As Christians, we have received a commission from God. “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mk. 16:15). We have never been decommissioned and the war for souls rages on—yet so many Christians have mothballed themselves! We attend church merely an hour or so on Sundays (if at all) and occasionally give the loose change in our pockets. All the while we are content to let some other fatigued unit handle the war. “Someone else will take care of it,” we tell ourselves; only those someones are thinking the same thing while glancing our way. The military has a term for units or individuals who “mothball” themselves: AWOL.
Have you mothballed yourself? There is a war going on and our commission still stands. Will you rejoin our ranks today?
