“Come and Dine”
Come and Dine!
“Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine.” —John 21:12
You’re going to like this devotion! Have you ever noticed how many references there are to Jesus eating?
Jesus performed His first miracle at a wedding feast He attended (John 2:1-11). One of His favorite places to eat was at the home of Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38-42; John 12:1-2). Jesus liked to eat with sinners (Luke 15:2). He attended a feast at Matthew’s house (Mt. 9:10). He fed 5,000 with some loaves and fishes. After His resurrection He enjoyed a meal of broiled fish with His disciples on the shore of the Sea of Galilee (John 21:9-12).
Jesus was actually falsely accused of being a “glutton” (Mt. 11:19).
Evidently, the Lord likes to eat! We look forward to “the marriage supper of the lamb” (Rev. 19:7). What a spread that will be! Even in the Kingdom we will eat with Him (Mt. 26:29). In describing the coming kingdom, the Lord says, “Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness“ (Isa. 55:2). [Did I hear someone say, “Amen!”]
Therefore, it should not be surprising to us that one of the ordinances involves eating (1 Cor. 11:23-34).
I love the quote by Julia Child, “The only time to eat diet food is while you’re waiting for the steak to cook.” So, go ahead and enjoy a “guilt-free” meal. Just remember to thank Him for it (1 Tim. 4:4)… eat it for His glory (1 Cor. 10:31)… and don’t make a god out of your belly (Phil. 3:19).
Now, with that in mind, please pass the salt!

Amen Brother Walls (Mt. 4:4).
Food., I love it. This is one of those common sense thoughts that should make of hunger for the Word of God.
