Heading Home

“…having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better” — Philippians 1:23

Several years ago my wife and I spent a few days at Ocean Shores, WA for a time to relax.  While strolling down the beach we came across some horses for rent.  We decided it would be nice to do some horseback riding along the beach. It was a pleasant, leisurely ride until we decided to go back. As soon as we turned the horses around to return, they immediately took off in a gallop and headed for the corral. They seemed to realize they were headed home, and we could not slow them down.

This world is not our home.  Our citizenship is in heaven (Phil. 3:20). Like Abraham, we sojourn in a strange country, looking for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God (Heb. 11:9-10).  I believe old Abraham would appreciate that song by the Happy Goodmans, “Just Wait’ll You See My Brand New Home.”

Do you find your spiritual gallop picking up speed as each new day brings you a little closer home? If so, that’s a good indication your on the right road.  May we all have the same tenacity as those horses on the beach. Let’s not let anything slow us down on our journey home!
