YOUR GREATEST THOUGHT?
How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! —Psalms 139:17
What is the greatest thought you’ve ever had? In his book, Things I Have Learned, Dr. Bob Jones, Sr. said his greatest thought was, “I had to live somewhere forever.” What an awesome truth! God created you with an eternal soul. You and I will live forever somewhere… therefore we had prepare for how we will spend eternity.
Daniel Webster was asked what was his greatest thought. He answered, “My accountability to God.” Romans 14:10-12 confirms this truth—“We shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ… So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.”
What does it mean to be accountable? Accountable means “answerable.” We are going to have to “answer” to God for what we say (Mt. 12:36)… for what we do (2 Cor. 5:10)… and for our stewardship of the resources God has entrusted to us (Luke 19:15). Luke 16:2 says, “Give account of thy stewardship.”
Being accountable is the message of the parable of the ten talents (Mt. 25:14-29). This parable is an illustration that God prizes those of us who take our role as stewards seriously—and He rewards us accordingly.
The importance of stewardship can be seen when you realize Jesus spoke more about stewardship than any other subject. He said that we are answerable for how we use our resources. How you spend your money is between you and God, who enabled you to earn it (Dt. 8:18). But you will be answerable to Him for how you use it.
Two tremendous thoughts worthy of your consideration: (1) You will spend eternity somewhere. (2) You must answer to God for your stewardship. How you answer will determine your rewards in eternity.
There can be no Lordship of Jesus without stewardship on your part. None. That’s because one cannot exist without the other.
