My Confession
A Pastor’s Confession
Confess your faults one to another… —James 5:16
I have a confession to make.
I confess, last Sunday morning I didn’t feel like going to church! That may be an eye-opener to some who know I am a pastor. But, unfortunately, it is true. You ask, “Preacher, why didn’t you feel like going to church?”
- Because I woke up with a bad head ache that wouldn’t go away.
- Because I was very tired from not getting much sleep Saturday night. (I stayed up too late working on a sermon).
- Because there was a game on TV Sunday I wanted to see.
- Because I knew there would be people at church who don’t like me and gossip about me.
- Because I knew some people couldn’t care less about what I have to say.
But, in spite of all these reasons, I went to church anyway! Do you know, why? Because it was the right thing to do (Heb. 10:24-25)!

PREACHER ,I LOVE YOU .AND PRAY FOR YOU EVERYDAY AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO…. MY OPINION OF YOU IS YOUR AMAZING, THE LEADER OF GODS CHURCH, YOU ARE A MAN OF GOD WITH UNCONDITIONAL LOVE FOR YOUR FAMILY , AND FRIENDS! YOU CAN JUGGLE A MILLION THINGS ALL AT THE SAME TIME WHILE STILL HOLDING A SMILE. YOU ARE SO INSPIRING TO ME AND MY FAMILY AND THE REASON I DECIDED NOT TO JUST ATTEND CHURCH SUNDAY MORNINGS BUT TO BE A ACTIVE MEMBER OF BIBLE BAPTIST CHURCH! YOU WOULD BE SO SO SO MISSED IF YOU DECIDED NOT TO COME I KNOW MANY OTHERS FEEL THE SAME WAY! HAVE A GREAT DAY PREACHER WITH LOTS OF LOVE SHANNON 🙂
Thank you Shannon. I’m so glad the the Lord brought you and your family to BBC. You are a blessing to me.
Pastor, I guess Satan attacks you the most as you are the pastor. I’m glad that God uses you, and I’m thankful for the sermon He gave you. It was a huge encouragement, and one of the best sermons I’ve heard. Praise God that you preach the whole word of God. I know I felt kinda discouraged and depressed Sunday morning, but the Lord reminded me to praythat God would show me something and speak to my heart and as soon as you started preaching God was speaking to my heart. It was kinda awesome that the sermon was along the lines of what I had been thinking and praying about for the past few weeks.
Thank you Stephanie. It is good to know the message was an encouragement to you. BTW, you are a great encouragement to me too! God bless you!
Dear Pastor Al, I just wanted to say I am so glad you were there on Sunday. Sunday School is so thoughtful and interesting it get’s my brain motivated for the week. Your sermon brought to mind my own experience of when I got saved, my mother was upset with me and my sister wanted to cleave to her own religion not giving the Lord the chance. I wish every Christian in this county could have the chance to hear you preach, You are the best preacher in my world and I love you very much. Candy
Dear Candy,
Thank you for posting your kind words. They mean a lot to me! God bless you!
It hurts me that anyone would gossip about you or that you think some people don’t care about what you have to say! It hurts because I care so much about you and you deserve so much more. I just wanted to say that I have never, ever heard you preach a sermon that didn’t mean a lot to me. You don’t get to call in sick, or take a day off to go to a game. I just wanted to comment and tell you how much I appreciate you and all you do for us. God has blessed us with an awesome, Godly preacher who cares about us, And it shows! Darci
Thanks Darci. Praying you’ll be able have your surgery soon and to get back in church. We miss you.
Thank you preacher, I appreciate your honesty and knowing that I am not the only one that wanted to stay in bed on Sunday
God bless you April. I appreciate your faithfulness. It shows you love the Lord.
As an adult looking back at childhood, the one thing children never really appreciated was that nearly every day they arrived at school the teacher stood in front of them. We didn’t think about how late they were up grading papers, how they had to put up with our often spoiled behaviors, how many children disliked their teachers and sang made up songs about them while playing on the playground at recess….. we didn’t see their tired, eyes, value the lessons they taught us or the example they themselves were for many of us. Many of us can think back and remember favorite teachers. Teachers that had an impact on our lives. They were often the only consistent examples we may have had in our lives. Some adults today are no more grown up mentally then they were as children with no responsibility at play at recess …. others didn’t realize the sacrifices those teachers made until they themselves grew up. I am grateful for the teacher, the lessons, the hours we never see when we decide to just show up. Still remembering a sermon you gave where you said if you have to decide if you are going to church on Sunday…. I personally really thought about that and it impacted me….. more than that it made me think about if I have that same attitude the other days of the week. Am I just showing up? Many days I confess I am just showing up…. tired from staying up to late, having too many things on my mind, places I would rather be. Thank you for the reminder Pastor. I don’t just want to make an appearance. I want to be present each day. Thank you for not just showing up but for being there.
Julie, I pray that God will continue to bless your faithful attendance. I have found that usually the service a person misses is the one they needed the most. The devil will do everything he can to keep people alway from the truth. God bless you! Thanks for posting.
I thought I was the only one that felt that way. But it is possible that I feel like the Lone Ranger.
