Teaching Moments
Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom. —Job 32:7
Did you know days “speak.” David said, “Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheath knowledge” (Psalm 19:2).
Each day’s experience speaks, if we will listen! Each day has “teaching moments” we can learn from. Are we paying attention or are we wasting those “teaching moments” tucked within our days?
Today I turn 68 years old. That is 24,820 days I’ve been alive. Those are a lot of days with “teaching moments.” I wish I had been more alert to all the things those days could have taught me. But I wasted many of them. However, I did pick up some wisdom during those days. Here are a few tidbits of wisdom my 68 years have taught me:
- The years have taught me worry has never helped me.
- The years have taught me there are some things not worth arguing about.
- The years have taught me God brings individuals into my life to make me more like Jesus.
- The years have taught me time is my most valuable commodity and not to be wasted.
- The years have taught me legalistic standards often breed a self-righteous attitude.
- The years have taught me not to “rain on someone’s parade” just because it doesn’t excite me as much as it does them. Rejoice with them that rejoice!
- The years have taught me to accept the blame for failure under my leadership and give the credit to others for success.
- The years have taught me to keep my friends close, and my enemies closer.
If multitudes of years have taught us wisdom, then our future should be better than our past. I trust your future will be better because of the wisdom you’ve gained through the “teaching moments” each day provides.
