Worthless Worship

Worthless Worship

The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands. They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not; They have ears, but they hear not; neither is there any breath in their mouths. They that make them are like unto them: so is every one that trusteth in them. — Psalm 135:15, 18

Worship is never static. Worship is powerful. It changes a person. You will become like who (or what) you worship.  That is what makes idolatry so dangerous. Idols are dumb, and so are those who worship them.

I read about a four-year old girl in North Wales whose complexion had turned orange. She had been drinking 1.5 liters of Sunny Delight every day. The manufactures admitted consuming large amounts of their product would change the color of a person’s skin. That little girl took on the characteristics of what she was drinking.

As 1 Kings 17:15 says, “they followed vanity, and became vain.”  People will take on the attributes of what, or who, they follow after.  If you follow after Jesus, you will become more like Jesus.  If you follow after material things you become materialistic. If you follow after the world, you will become worldly.  If you follow after the flesh, you become carnal.

“Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners” (1 Cor. 15:33).
