FIRST LOVE

“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” —Matthew 22:37

In Revelation 2:1-7, we read about the Lord’s charge that the church at Ephesus had left their first love. It wasn’t that they didn’t love the Lord Jesus at all. It was they didn’t love Him like they once did. If there ever was a time when you loved Jesus more than you do right now, you’ve backslidden.

This was the problem of Demas, “Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world” (2 Tim. 4:10). His loved for God cooled off while his love for the world heated up.

Instead of your love cooling off, “I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more” (Phil. 1:9).
