You Are What You Eat

You Are What You Eat

Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart… —Jeremiah 15:16

It’s been said, “You are what you eat.” What you eat becomes a part of your physical being. That’s why it is important to maintain a balanced diet.

The same is true spiritually. What you feed your spirit will become part of your spiritual being. That is why we need to nourish ourselves with the Word of God.

Job said, “I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food” (Job 23:12). Peter exhorts, “…desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby” (1 Peter 2:2). There is no denying the fact that a steady diet of God’s Word is beneficial to our spiritual health.

I have seen caterpillars eat into a leaf and consume it – the leaf sustained them and changed them — so ought we to do the same with the Word of God! We should not just crawl over its pages, but eat right into it until we have taken it into our inner most parts. As the caterpillar is sustained by eating and eventually is transformed into a new a beautiful butterfly, our feasting on God’s Word will transform us into the beautiful persons God wants us to become.

Does your diet include a good portion of God’s Word every day? Yum! Yum!
