THE CHALLENGE
“…prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts…” — Malachi 3:8-10
In 1975, Pepsi decided to test whether Americans preferred Pepsi or Coca Cola as their soda of choice. It was called the “Pepsi Challenge.” To test their theory that Pepsi was preferred, they set up tables in malls and stores across America. At the table were two unmarked cups, one containing Pepsi, the other Coke. The testers asked passers-by to try the two drinks and state which they preferred. Once the tasters’ opinion was recorded, the testers would reveal to them which drink they chose. The Pepsi Challenge proved Pepsi’s theory by concluding that Americans leaned toward preferring Pepsi over Coke.
In Malachi 3:10 God also issues a “challenge”—“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”
God’s challenge is for you and I to trust Him with our finances. It’s God vs. the economy… God vs. your bank account… God vs. your budget. God is saying, “Put Me to the test. Give Me one tenth of your income and see if I’ll not bless you abundantly.”
Those that took Pepsi Challenge received a button that read, “I took the Pepsi Challenge.” Those who take God’s “tithe challenge” receive much more than a button! They receive blessings from heaven!
Have you taken the “Tithe Challenge?” When it comes to personal finances, you’ll either choose to trust this world’s economy or God’s economy. Which will it be? God promises that as you choose to trust Him for your daily provisions, He will pour down blessings from Heaven.
