FINISH THE RACE!
“Let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus…” —Hebrews 12:1-2
I like running in 5K races. I recently ran a 5K and finished it in 27:36 which was good enough for first place in my age category (60-69). I even got a ribbon for it. But, more important than how fast my time was, or where I placed, was the simple fact that I finished the race in one piece.
In the recent Olympics at the final race for the 500 meter speed skating competition, the commentator announced at the finish, “Charles Hamelin made it to the finish line in one piece.” I like that!
The same is true in our service for the Lord. Finishing the Christian race is worth more than any earthly ribbon or trophy. When Paul got the finish line of his life of ministry, he said, “I have FINISHED my course… Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness…” (2 Tim. 4:7-8).
Christian, don’t stop running until you cross the finish line. FINISH THE RACE! Don’t quit!
