The Word of God and the Man of God
But the word of God came unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying… —1 Kings 13:22
King Rehoboam was about to send his armies against the ten northern tribes of Israel. However, he was intercepted by Shemaiah, the man of God, proclaiming the Word of God.
The word of God and the man of God go together. They are inseparable. If a man is a man of God, the Word of God will come to him. He will have a word from God. The Word of God always comes to the man of God for an intended audience with an intended objective in mind. God said to the Prophet Isaiah, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it” (Isa. 55:11).
When Rehoboam received the Word of God from the man of God, the Bible says, “They hearkened therefore to the word of the Lord, and returned to depart, according to the word of the Lord.” This is the proper response when God’s man delivers God’s Word. A great civil war was averted because “the word of God came unto… the man of God,” and it was heeded.
Do you heed the man of God as he preaches the Word of God? “Remember them which have the rule over you, WHO HAVE SPOKEN UNTO YOU THE WORD OF GOD: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation” (Heb. 13:7).
