SWEAT

SWEAT

They shall not gird themselves with any thing that causeth sweat. —Ezekiel 44:18

I workout on a treadmill for about a hour almost everyday. I sweat so profusely that when I’m done working out, there is hardly a dry stitch of cloth left on my body. As I was putting my sweaty clothes in the laundry today I thought about why we sweat. After Adam sinned, God said, “In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread…” (Gen. 3:19). Sweat is the result of sin. That is why the High Priest could not wear anything that caused sweat while he was in the Holy of Holies on the Day of Atonement. No sin can dwell in the presence of God.

The last place in the Bible sweat is mentioned is when Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. Luke tells us, “And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground” (Luke 22:44). The first mention of sweat was caused by the first Adam’s sin. The last mention of sweat is the sweat of blood from “the last Adam” as a covering for sin!

Praise God for the blood!
