God’s Voice

God’s Voice

And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. —Revelation 1:15

I have visited Niagara Falls two times in my life. Once as a child with my parents and once with my wife Barb after we were married.  I was overwhelmed by each experience.  The thing that impressed me the most was the thundering sound of massive amounts of water crashing over the edge of the falls. It was absolutely deafening.

Whenever I read our devotional text in Revelation 1:15, I think of Niagara Falls.  It is a sound that cannot be avoided and demands one’s attention.  While sometimes God speaks in a “still small voice” (1 Kings 19:12), other times God’s voice is like thunder— “And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder” (Rev. 14:2). In either case, it is a voice that deserves our attention.  When someone whispers, I must to pay close attention to hear what is said. When a voice is loud, I can’t miss it and it denotes something important.

Let’s be attentive to God’s voice as He speaks to us out of His written Word and to His Spirit speaking within our hearts (Gal. 4:6).
