A Matter of Perspective
“The things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel” — Philippians 1:12
Paul wrote the Book of Philippians in prison. It is called “the joy book” in the Bible because of it’s emphasis on rejoicing. While others may not see anything good about being in prison, Paul viewed it as a positive thing— “The things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel.”
Perspective makes the difference. A study of Olympic medal winners found that athletes who won bronze medals for coming in third place were happier than silver medal winners who won second place. Why? Because the third-place winner were thrilled just to have won something, whereas the silver medalists felt like losers because they didn’t come in first place!
Remember: What happens to you is not nearly as important as how you perceive what happens to you.
