A True Confession

It was a true report… Howbeit I believed not the words… —1 Kings 10:6-7

The Queen of Sheba heard about the fame and wisdom of King Solomon.  What she heard seemed fantastic, so she traveled about 1500 miles to Jerusalem to check it out for herself.

When she arrived and heard Solomon answer all her hard questions and saw the majesty of His kingdom, “there was no more spirit in her,” (1 Kings 10:5). In other words, it took her breath away. She was overwhelmed.

She confessed to Solomon, “It was a true report that I heard that I heard in my own land of they acts and of thy wisdom. Howbeit I believed not the words…”  This will be the same confession every child of God will make when they finally stand before the Lord in heaven—It was all true, but I believed not!

We say that we believe the Bible is all true, but we don’t really believe it. All the truth of the Bible has not really gripped our souls. If we really believed everything about eternity and heaven, and it was as real to us as it is to the angels who dwell there, we would be living much more differently than we actual do.  If the reality of what the Bible says about hell really got ahold of us, we would be doing more to get people saved than we are.  If we fully grasped that the whole Bible is truly the Word of God, we’d read it much more than we do.

The truth is, we can make bold statements about how much we believe, but deep down, we don’t wholly believe it.  Our lives prove we still battle with unbelief. At best, we only partially believe.  If we are honest, we must confess with that Father who brought his son to Jesus for healing, “Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief” (Mk. 9:24).

Our belief in the Scriptures will not be fully realized until we finally get to heaven.  Then we will confess as the Queen of Sheba, “mine eyes had seen it: and behold, the half was to told me!” (1 Kings 10:7).
