“All Things Work Together For Good…”
We know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. —Romans 8:28
Recently while preparing a sermon on Romans 8:28 I read about a missionary who was captured by cannibals. “I suppose you intend to eat me?” he asked the chief. The chief grunted in the affirmative. “You had better try a sample first to see if you like the taste of me.” He took a knife and cut a slab from the calf of his leg and handed it to the chief. “Try this and see.” The chief took one bite and choked.
The missionary had a cork leg. The chief wanted no more of it and the missionary was spared.
Years earlier, when the missionary lost his leg, he was tempted to become bitter. Now afterward he can see that it worked out for his good, but it hurt at the time.
The pain you suffer today will eventually work out for your good in the purposes of God.
