Al’s Quotes & Quips for March

Here some quotes I found in the fly-leaf of one of my old Bibles I used while in Bible College in the early 1970’s. Most of these quotes are by men who are now in heaven.

  • “If it were not for the last minute, hardly anything would get done.”
  • “It is better to aim at a goal and miss it than to aim at nothing and hit it.”
  • Definition of godliness: “Conformity to the mind and will of God.”
  • “Your message is the outflow of your life.” (Dr. Herbert Noe on 6/17/73, my pastor, in a chapel message).
  • “The church as a whole never rises above the moral and spiritual level of it’s individual member.” (J. Sidlow Baxter)
  • “Don’t speak unless you can improve the silence.”
  • “I can best motivate others to action by being active myself.  It is the law of physics that motion begats motion.”
  • “Life is only a dressing room for eternal life.” (Oliver B. Greene)
  • “A belief is something a man holds—A conviction is something that holds the man.” (Ralph Sutera)
  • “Be practical… Be faithful… Think positive… Keep busy.” (Dr. Paul Vanaman in a chapel message)
  • “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it is the size of the fight in the dog.” (Dr. Tom Malone, in a chapel message)
  • “You’re a man’s best friend when you supply him with and press upon him opportunity after opportunity to do good.” (Ed Skaggs, student body president)
  • “Preaching is the communication and explanation of Bible truth through the exhortation and personality of the preacher.” (Dr. Charles Whitfield on 10/18/72 in homiletics class)
