An “Open Door”

An “Open Door”

Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ’s gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord. —2 Corinthians 2:12

When I resigned from the pastorate at Bible Baptist in Port Orchard, WA on August 17, 2018, I had no idea where the Lord would lead Barb and I.  I only knew that after over 40 years of being a pastor, my pastoring days were over.

We set out on an adventure of faith across the United States.  After traveling for 7½ months, over 12,000 miles, in 28 states, that lead us to the great state of Arizona.   We settled in at Canyon Springs Baptist Church in Apache Junction under the leadership of Pastor Andy Wirtz.  Praise God, we have grown under his ministry.  Gradually, God began to “open doors” of ministry for me to preach/teach in our area. Barb is also teaching a Ladies Home Bible Study every Thursday.

Recently, the Lord has put an “open door” before me to preach every Sunday morning (9:00-10:00) to a retirement community in Mesa, AZ—The SilverRidge Community Fellowship.  This congregation is basically composed of “snowbirds” who winter in Arizona.  They print their own bulletins, have their own music program, and choir.  My main responsibility is to simply “preach the Word” each Sunday!

This new phase of ministry starts this Sunday, November 3, 2019, and will extend to the end of March, 2020 (when the “snowbirds” head back up north). I’m very excited about the prospects of leading some of these “senior saints” to Christ.

Thank you for praying for us. Please continue to pray for Barb and I as we  serve the Lord in this new venture!  Thanks.

[I will periodically post my sermon outlines here at www.avhughes.com.]

  1. I’m glad that others will get to hear your preaching as I did for so many years. Those snow birds will be blessed to have you preach to them God’s Word. You and Barb are wonderful examples of senior citizens who keep on keeping on for the Lord. God Bless you, Candy Lee
