Becoming More Like Christ

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory. —2 Corinthians 3:18

One of the ways we become more like Christ is by close communion with Him.  It is true that you become like the people you are closest too.

Among the Dutch, roses were sometimes cultivated by planting an inferior rose close to a rose of superior quality. The lesser rose was carefully watched and its anthers removed to avoid self-pollination and permit pollination by the superior rose. Gradually the rose thus treated demonstrated the superior characteristics of its companion.

This is a good illustration of the blessing that comes to one who walks with Jesus. If our lives are pollinated, as it were, by His righteousness… if His life-changing truth is received into the heart… if self is denied in order follow His footsteps… it is inevitable that gradually our life will lose its own inferior characteristics and develop the characteristics of the Rose of Sharon.
