BLAMING GOD
“In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.” —Job 1:22
Football wide receiver Steve Johnson is a fool. After he dropped what would have been a game-winning touchdown for the Buffalo Bills on November 28th, he railed against God on “Twitter” — “I praise You 24/7!!!!!! And this how you do me!!!!! You expect me to learn from this??? How???!!! I’ll never forget this!! Ever!!!” So, it appears Johnson’s “faith” will only allow him to praise God in the good times or when he scores a touchdown!
Johnson’s blaming God for his mistake is nothing new. It all goes back to the garden of Eden when Adam blamed is sin on God for giving him his wife Eve (Gen. 3:12).
Maybe Steve Johnson should learn a lesson from Job. Job had far worse problems than just dropping a football. Job lost everything he had—Possessions… Family… Health…— Yet he never blamed God for his hardships! No, instead Job worshipped and said, “The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD” (Job 1:21).
When things don’t go your way or you fumble the ball in life, be careful about blaming God if you have butterfingers! Don’t charge God foolishly!
