BURNT BISCUITS
Whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake… — 1 Corinthians 10:27
Barb and I were recently invited to one of our church members home for dinner. Our hostess was somewhat embarrassed that the biscuits were burnt and apologized. I smiled and said, “Pass the biscuits, I’d like to have one.” After eating it I said, “That was delicious, may I have another?” A burnt biscuit never hurt anyone.
Life is full of imperfect things… and imperfect people. I’m not the best at hardly anything, and I forget birthdays and anniversaries, and sometimes fail to say “thank-you.” But I’ve learned over the years to accept each others faults. When you love someone, you tend to be blind to their shortcomings. As Peter says, “Charity shall cover the multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:8).
That’s my prayer for you today. That you will learn to take the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of life and lay them at the feet of God. Because in the end, He’s the only One who will be able to give you a relationship where a burnt biscuit isn’t a deal-breaker!
This is the base of any healthy relationship, be it a husband-wife or parent-child or friendship! Don’t put the key to your happiness in someone else’s pocket… keep it in your own.
God Bless You… Now, and Always… So, please pass me a biscuit, and yes, a burnt one will do just fine!
