Christmas Lights
Christmas Lights
The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. —Matthew 4:16
The other night, Barb and I drove around our neighborhood to view the beautiful homes decorated with colorful Christmas lights. Some of those homeowners must have taken many hours to put up their dazzling lights. One house had thousands of lights synchronized to flash to musical accompaniment. I’m amazed when I consider the hundreds (or thousands) of dollars it cost to purchase those lights. All for only about three or four weeks out of the year.
I can’t help but think about the true light of Christmas—The Lord Jesus—The light of the world. As Christians, we are “the light of the world” as we reflect His light 365 days every year (Mt. 5:14).
Imagine if Christians put as much time, effort, and money as they do in putting up Christmas lights, into shinning forth “the light of the glorious gospel of Christ” (2 Cor. 4:4). How many darkened souls could come to see the Light of salvation in Christ? As Paul wrote to the Philippians,”That ye may be blameless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom YE SHINE AS LIGHTS IN THE WORLD” (Phil. 2:15).
This Christmas, “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Mt. 5:16).
