The Bridge

The Bridge

And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross… —Ephesians 2:16

You have probably heard of the collapsed pedestrian bridge that spanned the gap between the Florida International University and Sweetwater, Florida. This bridge was supposedly constructed with the most advanced technology to date. Yet, tragic failure of this newly constructed bridge killed six people and injured several others.

It seems the world has a fascination with bridges. Society talks about “bridging the generation gap,” and bridges to ease racial tensions. One popular song refers to “a bridge over troubled waters.”

Bridges are the innovations of man’s ingenuity. The Golden Gate Bridge, the Mackinaw Bridge, the George Washington Bridge all boast of man’s engineering achievements.

Interestingly, there is not one reference to bridges in the Bible. On the other hand, there are over 250 references to “walls” in the Scriptures. While bridges connect things, walls separate things. God is more interested in separation than He is in connecting things.

There is only ONE “bridge” that God cares about—It is the “bridge” that spans the gap between heaven and hell. That “bridge” is the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is a bridge that will never collapse under the weight of man’s sin and will ultimately lead him to the pearly gates of glory.

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). ALL other bridges will ultimately fail like the collapse of “Galloping Gertie” on November 7, 1940. [https://youtu.be/CsKKDLKYsVU]

Make sure you are on the “bridge” to heaven!
