COMMIT and TRUST
Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. —Psalm 37:5
To commit is to transfer or consign something (or someone) to another’s keeping (Gen. 39:8, 22). I see some Christians who seem to commit their situation to God, but stop short of “trust also in him.” They take their burden to the Lord, but they don’t leave it there. They take it back only to keep on worrying, praying, and recommitting the same thing over and over again. That is not trusting… It is unbelief.
A person watching a ball game may not look as spiritual as a man on his knees in prayer, but if he has committed his way to the Lord and is trusting Him, he can enjoy the game without worrying his situation. His situation is in God’s hands now. That man is more spiritual than one who keeps on praying and begging God about his situation, but never actually trusts the Lord to bring it to pass.
Hannah took her burden about having a child to the Lord, then left the results with God. She “went her way and did eat and her countenance was no more sad.” Amen! Give it to God, then go your way smiling knowing it is as good as done when God takes over!
