Committing and Trusting

Committing and Trusting

Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. —Psalm 37:5

There is no committing without trusting. No trust—No commitment.  What you commit into God’s hand you must trust Him with it.  If I commit the keys to my house into your hands, I am trusting my house to your care.  If you are not trusting God with what you put in His hand, you haven’t really committed it to God.

Our text says, Commit thy way unto the Lord, trust also in him, and he shall bring it to pass.”  There are two parts in this verse: (1) Our part, and (2) God’s part.  Our part is to commit our way unto the Lord and then trust Him with it. God’s part is to bring it to pass.

Notice: Commit thy way unto the Lord…”This is a one time commitment in the PAST of our way to God. Then, “trust also in him…”—An ongoing trust during the PRESENT. Finally, “and he shall bring it to pass” in the FUTURE.

This truth is illustrated in John 4:26-53:  A father commits his sick son to Jesus (past). He trusts what Jesus said and goes on his way (present).  The next day he finds God has brought it to pass and his son has been fully healed (future).

It is not saying, “I trusted” but, “I am trusting” that gets the job done!

  1. Happy New Year Preacher & Barb, So good to see you are both doing well. Dan & I pray for you both, and are happy to see that all is going better now the truck is fixed. I have for a while wonted to start up an Home Bound Ministry for all those whom have gone to our church, yet have had health issues where they can no longer come anymore. I am starting this Ministry this New Year, I ask for your prayer, I will bring Karen Gilfoy or Mrs. De Spain with me. I have Darci Togeson , Musett Harris, & Debbie Long as my first Ladies to visit this month. The plan is to bring them the Baptist Bread, any of the Sunday School class work that Bro. Nilson is teaching, a small snack. To chat & pray with them, help with anything they can not do themselves, as well as offering communion which will be administered to by either Pastor De Spain , or Carl Gifoy. I am also starting up an ISAIAH Study in Feb. with April Tally & Karen Gilfoy . My goal is to go through all the Prophets. Thank you for all your prayers, Know we are praying for you both. Love Bro. Dan & Sister Sharon.

    1. Hi Sharon. That sounds like a wonderful ministry and very needed! I rejoice that God laid this ministry on your heart! I’ll be praying for God’s blessings on your efforts to reach out to “shut-ins.” If you want to use any of my devotions, or studies in Isaiah to help you minister to these people, help yourself. They are available at http://www.avhughes.com. Lord willing, we hope to see you and Dan when we visit Port Orchard sometime this spring. GOD BLESS YOU!!!

  2. Thank you for that Pastor! My sister is fighting cancer and I have to trust the Lord that she is in His hands. She is very frightened and I don’t want to lose her.
