CONFESSION
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. — Proverbs 28:13
Someone sent this note to the IRS: “Enclosed is a cashier’s check. I cheated on my income tax return. I haven’t had a good night’s sleep since. P.S.: If I still can’t sleep at night, I’ll send you the rest.”
How much do we need to confess to God, in order to sleep at night? Answer: ALL OF IT! When you go before God in prayer, take the mask off, and be open and transparent about your sins. Don’t make excuses or try to keep secrets. God will love you, forgive you, cleanse you, then you’ll be free from any guilt. Don’t hold back. You can’t say to God, “I’ll tell you the rest of my sins tomorrow if I still can’t sleep tonight.”
D.L. Moody told one repentant sinner, “You need to confess your sins.” The sinner said, “But I can’t remember them.” Moody answered, “Then guess at them!” You know what? He guessed right every time!
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. —1 John 1:9
