Ears and Eyes

Ears and Eyes

The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them. —Proverbs 20:12

God created man with five senses: Seeing; hearing; touch; taste; and smell. Solomon emphasizes the wonders of “the hearing ear and the seeing eye.”      Why single out the ear and the eye?  Why not say, “the smelling nose and the wagging tongue, the LORD hath made even both of them.”

Most of our knowledge is gained through our eyes and ears.   Therefore I must yield my eyes and ears as instruments of righteous unto God.”(Rom. 6:13).  We are warned about those who “turn away their ears from the truth”(2 Tim. 4:4). Rather we should incline our ears to hearing God’s Word (Ps. 78:1).

David said, “I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes”(Ps. 101:3).  The main source of temptation is usually through the eye-gate (Gen. 3:6; Josh. 7:21; Job. 31:1; 2 Sam. 11:2; Mt. 6:22-23).

Psalm 94:9 says, “He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? He that formed the eye, shall he not see?”  Since God made a human ear, do you think He is deaf?  If God can make something so marvelous as a human eye, do you think He is blind to what is going on.  He hears all, and He sees all.  As the little S.S. chorus says—

O be careful little eyes what you see

For the Father up above—Is looking down in love

So, be careful little eyes what you see

O be careful little ears what you hear

For the Father up above—Is looking down in love

So, be careful little ears what you hear

Since God created the ear and eye, we will give account for how we use them.

  1. Ray has done a solo of a song called “Slow Fade” by Casting Crowns.
Satan . society and the influence of the film industry slowly but surely has used our eyes and ears to unsuspecting change to our lives. Peer pressure as well. Unless we are continually in God’s word and doing God’s will.
