Every Word of God
Every Word of God
“Every word of God is pure” — Proverbs 30:5
God commanded, Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it… (Dt. 4:2). God has preserved every word of Scripture for us today (Ps. 12:6-7). Not a single word is to be deleted, diminished, or skipped over. “Man doth not live by bread only, but by EVERY WORD that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord” (Dt. 8:3; Mt. 4:4).
Kim Peek memorized all of Shakespeare’s plays. During a performance of Twelfth Night, Peek noticed an actor skipped a word from one of the lines. Peek suddenly stood up and shouted, “Stop!” The actor apologized and said he didn’t think anyone would mind. Peek replied, “Shakespeare would.” Likewise, God objects when anyone omits anything from His Word. God inserted a strong warning at the end of the Bible not to add or subtract anything from the Word God has given (Rev. 22:18-19).
How a person esteems God’s Holy Word reflects their esteem towards the God who spoke the words (Job 23:12). The value a person places on the words of God reveals their view of Him. When God spoke to young Samuel at the tabernacle, he “did let none of his words fall to the ground” (1 Sam. 3:19).
God has magnified His Word even above His name! How well do you reverence the words of God?
