Follow Me
Follow Me!
He went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me.—Luke 5:27
If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. —Luke 9:23
If any man serve me, let him follow me… —John 12:26
Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them —Mark 9:2
There has never been a greater leader of men than Jesus. For three and half years He lead twelve men who turned the world upside down (Acts 17:6)!
Margaret Thatcher once said, “You can’t lead from the crowd.” To lead means the leader must be out front of his followers. I recently read about Major Richard Winters who was a United States Army officer who lead his company (Easy Company) in the invasion of Normandy during World War II and fought across France and eventually Germany. Winters was a leader who lead from the front. He most frequent command was “Follow me,” as he lead his men into combat. The test of leadership is to look behind you to see if anyone is following. If no one is following, you’re just whistling in the dark.
Jesus calls to us, “Follow Me.” “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Mt. 4:19). “My sheep hear my voice… and they follow me” (John 10:27). He knows the way through the wilderness, all we need to do is follow. As long as we are following the leadership of Christ, we have nothing to fear.
