GLORIFYING GOD
Whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. —1 Corinthians 10:31
The Washington Post calls Christopher Parkening “the leading guitar virtuoso of our day.” He is described as “one of the most brilliant guitarists in the world.” He recorded twenty albums, has been nominated for two Grammy awards, and performed at Carnegie Hall and the White House. At the height of his professional career he gave up the guitar, bought a ranch in Montana, and spent most of his time fly-fishing. However, he soon became bored and felt empty inside.
While visiting Southern California, he was invited to attend church where he heard the Gospel. Of this Parkening wrote: “That night I lay awake, broken over my sins… I had lived very selfishly and it had not made me happy…. It was then that I asked Jesus Christ to come into my life, to be my Lord and Savior. For the first time, I remember telling Him, ‘Whatever You want me to do with my life, Lord, I’ll do it.’”
He resumed playing guitar, only this time with the motivation to glorify God. Parkening says, “My true goal in life now is to be a good and faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. My career is only a means to an end, and that end is to glorify the Lord with my life and with the music that I play.”
God has given you talents and gifts. How are you using them to glorify God?
