How’s Your Singing?
I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto thee. — Psalm 138:1
Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; — Ephesians 5:19
In the 1860’s a little gypsy boy came to one of D.L. Moody’s meetings. In that meeting, Ira Sankey, Moody’s song leader, put his hands on the boy’s head and prayed, “O Lord use this little lad for Your glory.” God took that little gypsy boy and made him into one of the most widely used evangelists of the 1800 – 1900’s. His name was Gipsy Smith.
He loved to sing and praise the Lord. Someone told Gipsy Smith that he needed to learn to sing from his diaphragm. Gipsy told him, “I don’t want to sing from my diaphragm. I want to sing from my heart!”
When he was in his seventies, Gipsy Smith was still vibrant and zealous for the Lord. An old man approached Gipsy and felt his head saying, “I am trying to find your bumps, so I can find the secret of your success.” Gipsy answered, “You must feel down here,” Gipsy said as he placed the man’s hand on his heart. “The secret is, I’ve never lost the wonder!”
Have you lost the wonder of God?
When you sing unto the Lord, are you singing with your whole heart?
