JOY HELPERS
“…helpers of your joy…” —2 Corinthians 1:24
I recently heard about a couple who were driving home after an enjoyable evening at church. This particular church service contained a heavy dose of humor and laughter. On the way home the wife said to her husband who was driving, “That service was such a blessing! I don’t remember when I’ve laughed more than I did tonight.” Her husband, with dead-panned expression, replied, “Well, I guess we just haven’t had much to laugh about lately.” His comment sucked all the joy out of his wife’s spirit and she said, “Stop the car, this is where I get off.”
Have you ever been around a “joy sucker.” They suck the joy right out of your heart like the ghost exterminators on “Ghostbusters” who suck ghosts into their containment unit.
Don’t let anyone steal your joy. Psalm 118:24 says, “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Spread the joy around. Be a “joy helper,” not a “joy sucker!” Laughter not only makes you feel good, but also those around you!
